Former Atascocita Softball pitcher Jenika “J-Lo” Lombrana has announced her plans to transfer to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to continue her collegiate career. Lombrana, who led the Lady Eagles to the 6A state title in 2018, comes to the Islanders after one season at Texas A&M-International, where she led the Dust Devils to an 8-7 record in conference play, pitching 186 innings and recording 129 strikeouts as a true freshman.
When asked about why she chose to take her talents to TAMUCC, Lombrana said that she sees “Potential in the new coaching staff being brought in”. Lombrana also wants to help to build a “Winning culture” and to “Turn the program around”. Lombrana, when questioned about expectations, stated that she wants to “Make some noise in the Southland Conference and help the program in any way possible so that we can put together winning seasons”.
Lombrana credits her parents, Vince and Jennifer, for “Making it possible for me to get to where I am today. They’ve constantly pushed me and kept me on track and I’m super grateful to have them in my corner”. J-Lo also would like to thank her new Coach at TAMUCC, stating that “The island is going to be very pleased with the new staff. I’m extremely excited to play for Coach Zaleski because she knows how to win. I’m humbled that she sees my talent and recruited me. I know she’s going to be a huge impact on the program”.
As previously mentioned, Lombrana will team up with newly hired Islanders Head Coach Kristen Zaleski, who comes to TAMUCC after nine years coaching at Temple Junior College. Congratulations to Jenika Lombrana from the TexanLive.com team.
