Sachse opened up their 2018 playoff campaign with a dominant performance in all areas of the field. In the bi-district round they needed just five innings to run-rule Lake Highlands 18-0.
It was a bit of redemption against the team that knocked them out in the same round in 2017.
The lady Mustangs will now move on to face the Oak Ridge War Eagles, a team that competes in 12-6A with The Woodlands, Lufkin, and Montgomery.
Although Oak Ridge’s record was 5-5 in district play, they compiled a record of 12-5 in non-district matchups, and won their playoff game in five innings as well 11-1 vs Longview.
Mattie Boyd will be another key factor in how the lady Mustangs hold up against the War Eagles.
In Boyd’s first game she was electric, reaching base in each of her four plate appearances. The plate discipline demonstrated by her three walks was impressive, but it was her homerun that stood out.
Overall, Sachse had four extra base hits with triples from Nya Brown (2 RBIs, 2 R) and Caitlin Clem (3-4, RBI, R) and a double from Tarynn Luttrull (2-3, 6 RBIs).
However, it was not Boyd’s bat but her arm that solidified this victory. She tossed a perfect game, needing only 55 pitches (48 for strikes) to strike out 12 of the 15 batters she faced.
As a team, Sachse went 15 for 29 at the plate with six walks.
Sachse is having a season for the ages. The lady Mustangs went a perfect 12-0 en route to the 2018 district 10-6A title, with an astonishing overall record of 21-6-1.
This matchup will be one of the biggest tests Sachse has faced yet, but the Lady Mustangs are eager to show the softball world they are the real deal.
The series begins Thursday, May 3rd and continues to Friday, May 4th.
The entire series will have a LIVE video broadcast on TexanLive.com.
The winner will take on the winner of Coppell (24-4) vs Lufkin (20-5-1) in the regional quarter-finals.
