HOUSTON – The awards keep stacking up for the 2017 Manvel Mavericks: Kirk Martin is the 2017 Texan Live Coach of the Year.
Hoka Hey nation steam rolled through most of their competition in 2017. The playoffs were no exception as they defeated impressive programs that were bidding for a shot, or in some cases another shot, at a state championship:
Road To State:
Bi-District vs Madison 49-6
Area vs Nederland 51-26
Regional Semifinals vs Cedar Park 56-17
Regional Finals vs 49-34
State Semifinals vs Angleton 35-10
Highland Park 53 Manvel 49
Let’s not forget that Manvel was the stretch of an arm away from a state title but were held at bay as time expired in the state finals. Many agree that if there was one second left on the clock, the state championship would be in Manvel, TX.
Regardless of the outcome of the game, there’s no denying what Martin did for his program in 2017 and the legacy he has build there.
To top it all off, his son was the quarterback and leader of the team.
The inspirational speech that Kason Martin delivered at the end of the game to his defeated squad was one that will be remembered for years to come.
As the proud father watched on as his son took control of certainly the most emotional sports moment of their lives, it spoke louder of his coaching not on the field, but off the field with his son.
