HOUSTON – DePriest Taylor of Manvel is our 2017 Defensive Player of the Year.
In a close finish, Taylor gathered up just over 14% of the votes slightly ahead of the 12% racked up by Bryan Broussard of Dickinson.
Already committed to Prairie View A&M, Taylor had quite the season individually for the Manvel Mavericks. However, it did not stop there.
Taylor’s personal accomplishments went in to a solidified system that Manvel head coach Kirk Martin setup for his program.
Manvel advanced the UIL D1-5A state finals where they took a heartbreaking loss to Highland Park just an arm length away from the big prize.
Overall Taylor was a big part of Hoka Hey nation’s success in 2017. He led his team in solo tackles (63), assists (33), total tackles (96), and sacks (7).
