HOUSTON – New Caney senior wide receiver Eli Akin will get one more shot to represent the Eagles on the gridiron at the Blue-Grey All American Game (Pacific vs Atlantic) on January 21 at Oakland Colesium, the home of the Oakland Raiders.
“It’s just one more little plus for our program,” New Caney coach Brady Pennington said. “Obviously for him to be selected from, I would guess all over the nation, to get to go play in a game such as this is quite a compliment to him, coaches and teammates and obviously for our program here at New Caney.”
Akin finished his senior season with 1,202 yards and 17 touchdowns on 64 receptions. Aiken was selected to the All-District Second Team Offense following the season.
“Obviously Eli is an explosive player and probably has some of the best hands I’ve ever coached,” Pennington said. “He has tremendous hands. He makes one-handed catches in practice all the time. He has very good speed. It tickles me to death that he’s getting a little bit more notoriety as we get closer to February. I’m excited for him and it’s well deserved.”
The 6-foot-3 wide receiver currently has offers from Navarro College, Tyler Junior College, University of Central Arkansas, Benedictine College and Trinity Valley College.
