Former Atascocita player and current Purdue University freshman Carsen Edwards was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday by the conference.
Edwards, who is averaging 10.6 points per game this season, sixth-best scoring average by a Purdue freshman, and 11 points per game in conference play, helped guide the Boilermakers to a pair of blowout victories last week. The former Eagles’ star netted 14 points in a 91-68 win against Illinois, while scoring 13 in a win against Penn State.
Averaging 13.5 points per game during the week, hitting 11 of 14 from the field and going 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, helped Edwards earn his first collegiate accolade.
Edwards shared the weekly honor with Maryland’s Justin Jackson.
This season, Edwards has racked up 212 points for Purdue, ranking him 26th all-time among freshman scoring for the Boilermakers.
