Ray Zepeda, associate athletic director for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, has been named the athletic director. Zepeda replaces Ed Warken, who retired after a 42-year career following the 2015-2016 school year.
Zepeda has 23 years of experience in Texas public education, including the last three years in CFISD. His career began with Corpus Christi ISD, including one year as a middle school athletic coordinator/head football coach and two years as a varsity assistant. He then served three years as a varsity assistant at Milby High School in Houston before taking over as defensive coordinator and biology teacher at Galena Park High School for five years.
He then assumed his first high school athletic director and head football coaching position at Mathis High School in Mathis ISD, serving two years before returning to Galena Park as its athletic coordinator and head football coach. After leading the Yellowjackets to three playoff appearances in seven years, he accepted the associate athletic director role with CFISD.
Zepeda earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology/Biology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Educational Administration from Texas Southern University.
“I am humbled and honored to be selected to be the next athletic director of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD,” Zepeda said. “I have always viewed CFISD as a premier school district with all the pieces in place for athletic and academic excellence. I look forward to serving the kids, coaches and community in my new role, and will work hard to uphold our athletic department’s reputation as one of the best in the great state of Texas.”
