Kingwood’s Mile Relay Wins State

Kingwood High School boys capture the gold medal in the mile relay for the second year in a row! After winning the State Championship for 5A last year, there has been a buzz about Kingwood High School boys track and field team. All season long the boys have been dominating in the individual events, with the highly anticipated mile relay team finishing first at every meet.

The mile relay team consists of: Dominic Swoopes, Myles Marshall, Dawson Trudell, and DeWitt Thomas. Going in to the state meet, these boys were one of the top teams in the nation with Manvel High School being a close second. Before the race, no one knew what to expect, but never could anyone have expected the ending that happened on Saturday evening. It literally came down to hundredths of a second.

Diving across the finish line, senior, DeWitt Thomas beat Manvel’s Howard Fields by .04 of a second for the gold!

Kingwood High School finished 4th at the state meet after New Braunsfels, Port Arthur, and Manvel. Congratulations to all teams on an amazing season.
