Winning 25 games in a row, in any sport, is extraordinarily tough. Imagine trying to win 25 district championships in a row. That’s what the Kingwood Girls Soccer team has done. With their 2-0 win over The Woodlands in their last district game, Kingwood captured their share of the District 16-6A Girls Soccer Title, making it the 25th year in a row that they have won their respective district’s title.
To kick off their 2015 playoff campaign, the Lady Mustangs traveled to nearby Turner Stadium to take on the Klein Collins Tigers. 15 minutes into the game, a 35 yard strike from Kennedy Brown made the game 1-0. With momentum on their side, Kingwood continued their offensive domination with another goal 9 minutes later, a tap-in by Briana Prucha.
For the rest of the half, Klein Collins played back, keeping most of their girls back on defense to prevent Breezy Moore and the Mustangs from scoring yet again. Kingwood went into halftime with a 2-0 lead over the Tigers.
Kingwood did not change their style of play coming out of the half however, even with a 2 goal lead. The Mustangs continued their attacking, offensive-minded style. In the 47th minute of the game, Sloane Scharold got her birthday wish, scoring a goal and making the game 3-0.
For another 20 minutes the teams went back and forth, playing great defense but in the 68th minute, Klein Collins scored their first goal. An additional 9 minutes had passed when Klein Collins struck again, cutting the Mustangs lead to 3-2 but with 3 minutes left in the game, the Tigers would need a miracle. The Mustangs went on to win the game by a final of 3-2, advancing to the 2nd round of the 6A Girls Soccer Playoffs.
